Keith Hampton grew up on a farm near Ernfold, Saskatchewan, where he was influenced by his grandfather’s woodworking abilities. At the age of 12, he learned basic woodworking in 4-H.
Approximately 20 years later, Keith instructed wood-working in 4-H for a few years. He bought his first lathe in 1981. Keith practiced off and on until 1998, when he was shown the basics of turning by Henry Franks of Gravelbourg. He later purchased Henry’s lathe and vast collection of tools and exotic woods. With help from others, Keith harvests woods such as cotton wood, buffalo berry and boxelder burl from the surrounding area. His work exemplifies originality, creativity and care.
